About Me :

In high school, I started to get very sick. I went from playing soccer and being active, to having half days at school. I had three surgeries in 2003 and one in 2004. At that point I was diagnosed with my first chronic illness PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome). After turning 21 and still having serious stomach problems we changed my diet. We also found I had some environmental and food allergies including gluten, cow's milk dairy, and apples.

For a few years things were tolerable and I was able to finish college and start working full time. Unfortunately, my symptoms (nassau, vomiting, diarrhea, & pain) started to increase in length and severity, especially after I ate. My sugar levels would drop drastically (one time even going to a level 25 where I should have been in a sugar coma) because I couldn't keep any food in my system. It took doctor's till last year to finally diagnosed my second illness as chronic dumping syndrome. It's more severe than what other people may have and is considered very "unique" due to the surgeries from before. Lately, they have also been questioning if I could have been misdiagnosed and have IBS or IBD.

I have a port in my chest that was placed in Feb. 2013. It makes my hydration therapy (IV fluids) that I receive twice a week much easier to cope with. No more bruising on my arms, Huzzah!

In July of 2013, I had an experimental stomach surgery to try and decrease my symptoms. It didn't end up helping the way the doctors had hoped it would, most of my symptoms stayed the same and in some cases became worse.

In March I started a new medication and will hopefully see some improvement.

This blog is to try and help anyone who might have a chronic illness. It's hard when you feel alone and like no one around you understands. I want to help and let people know, they are not alone in their fight against their chronic illness. We are spoonie strong!

  1. Hi- I'm Ila from @HeHasMS on twitter. I'm also on Facebook too, if you want to connect on there too! You can send me a PM, the link is on my site. My youngest son has a Dairy Allergy, too. I blog about a different chronic illness though, Multiple Sclerosis. I agree that it can feel like you are alone when no one else understands, that's part of why I blog- to educate and raise awareness for MS and other 'invisible illnesses'.
